DULLES, VA – Continuing our commitment to be at the forefront of advanced medical technology, StoneSprings Hospital Center has established the only Xi Robotic Training Epicenter for General Surgery in Northern Virginia. As one of only 40 General Surgery Epicenters in the world and the second in Virginia this designation establishes StoneSprings Hospital Center as a frontrunner in robotic surgery and expertise.
“I'm proud to be a part of the Epicenter at StoneSprings Hospital Center. This speaks volumes to the support of not only the surgical team, but also the administrative team here,” said, Dr. C. Bernard Cross. “Being an Epicenter allows us to help train fellow surgeons in advanced surgical techniques, which ultimately means helping more patients achieve minimally invasive surgery with excellent outcomes, less pain and return to normal life sooner.”
What is an Epicenter?
- An elite network of the nation’s most experienced robotic surgeons
- A comprehensive surgical training program directed by a highly experienced surgeon who demonstrates best practices, excellent surgical outcomes and innovation in research
- A training site to proctor and mentor new robotic surgeons throughout the nation
As an Epicenter training site, StoneSprings Hospital Center hosts surgeons from across the nation as they study specialized surgical techniques by observing robotic surgeries in action in our da Vinci operating suite.
“Establishing our facility as an epicenter for robotic surgery was a natural move for the team at SSHC,” said Dr. Timothy Shaver, Medical Staff President at StoneSprings Hospital Center. “It's our goal to remain at the forefront of surgical technology not only for the benefit of our surgeons, but also for our patients.”
The Epicenter team is led by highly regarded surgeon Dr. C. Bernard Cross, with Surgical Specialists of Northern Virginia. Dr. Cross has built a reputation of excellence and demonstrated dedication, experience, excellence in patient outcomes, and passion for teaching.
“Intuitive is selective about choosing a robotic surgery program to serve as an Epicenter teaching site for general surgery,” said Lance Jones, CEO at StoneSprings Hospital Center. “Our program, and in particular Dr. Cross, is a leader in his field in terms of experience, overall volume and quality outcomes.” While the Epicenter is focused on general surgery procedures, the minimally invasive robotic surgery program at StoneSprings Hospital Center also includes gynecology and urology.
